In October 2006 a class in the Amigos School (Cambridge, MA) went to the Rocky shores and Tide pools of Deer Island off Winthrop in Boston harbor. Me (Annie) being part of that class.
Abiotic:
In the Rocky Shore and Tide Pools you can find an assortment of abiotic rocks and bolders, air, and most of all salt water and sun.
Producers, Herbivores, Carnivores, and(biotic life):
The Rocky Shore and Tide Pool share Producers such as: algae, kelp, sea lettuce, Irish moss, and rockweed. Herbivores such as: Limpets, Sea Urchin, Protests, Sand Dollar, Sea Star, Hermit Crab, Sea Sponge and fish. Carnivores such as: Sea Urchin, Hermit Crab, Sea Star, Sea Anemone, Plankton, crabs, Seagulls, and fish. And las but not least Decomposers: Bacteria, Snails, Periwinckles, and Barnacles.
In our ecosystem the energy flows as such: Snails, Barnacles, and Bacteria decompose the producers, herbivores(firstevel consumers), and carnivores(second level consumers).
l Algea, Kelp, Irish Moss, Sea Lettuce, and Rockweed are the producers (which produce food for the first level consumers). Protist, Limpets, Sea Urchin, Sand Dollars, Sea Star, Hermit Crab, Sea Sponge, Branicles, and Fish are the first levelconsumers.
Seaguls, Sea Urchin, Sea Anemone, Hermit Crab, Fish, Crabs, Plankton, are the second level consumers (carnivores) of the Rocky Shore and Tide Pool on Deer Island.

The day we went it was beautiful. Sunny some clouds but very nice.
Land Formation:
The Rocky shore was protected by large rocks making a slanted wall, then around the water there were smaller rocks and little patches of sand.
The Tidepool had small rocks (about 2 fist sizes) all full with periwinkles. The water was fairly shallow but wide (about 20 feet across)
